3D Projects by Our Students

The Seminar “3D Prototyping of Geometrical Models” has taken place at Astrakhan State University; students and professors of our Department of Mathematics & Information Technologies have taken part in it.

The event has been of presentation character: 3D projects by our students have been displayed to the public. The projects have been supervised by the Mr. Nikolay Ermilov, Junior Professor of the Chair of Mathematics & Mathematics Teaching Technique. “We proved how versatile Applied Geometry, to which are developments are related, may be”, Mr. Ermilov has remarked. “I generated many projects, and our students – talented, creative, full of energy – supported my initiatives and created numerous unique models”.

The public could see various developments – from a 3D printer and a 3D calendar to a historically reconstructed helmet and a fractal golden section business card. The projects are so peculiar and innovative that, according to the Mr. Ermilov, it is necessary to arrange a special seminar for each of them.

Prof. Anna Fedotova, ASU’s Vice Rector for Research Activities, has played an active role in the discussion that was a logical consequence of the presentations. She has advised Mr. Ermilov and his students to establish contacts with third parties to commercialize their developments, to make up the necessary business plans, to take part in various granting programs, and to submit applications for registration of their intellectual property.

Viability of these activities on the field of Applied Geometry is beyond any doubts. As Mr. Ermilov says, the research team is planning to produce a model of a ball (in several variants) for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup to be held in Russia and for some other remarkable events.

To obtain additional information related to our students’ developments, one can visit the Festival of Students’ Science to be held at Astrakhan State University on December 15, 2015.
