Regional Governor & Minister of Education Assess Developments by ASU

Mr. Alexander Zhilkin, Governor of Astrakhan Region, and Mr. Vitaliy Gutman, Regional Minister of Education & Science, have been on a visit to Astrakhan State University.

The two distinguished guests have seen our laboratories located in the newly erected building of ASU; our R & D team has demonstrated them several original innovative projects, in particular – various types of robots and 3D prototypes of geometric models. What has interested the two guests most was spectacles for the blind, which are of real social importance. Their experimental model has all the components that are necessary for blind people, e.g. an obstacle detection system, which starts vibrating and giving a signal as a blind person is approaching an obstacle, as well as bone conductivity earphones that do not cover up auricles. The developers of those spectacles are planning to link them to a telephone and apply them as a navigator.

In our Laboratory of Ideas, the Governor and the Minister have learnt much about some research units of our University. For example, our Center of Financial Literacy develops solutions that aim to tackle issues of applying financial services. As for the Research Center of Logistic Solutions, its projects aim to model and optimize traffic flows.

In conclusion, our Rector has told the two guests about the very building of ASU, which complies with Class A of energy saving; it is equipped with the most modern life support systems. “We’re planning to arrange training for staff of various companies to maintain this system; we’re also going to organize scientific conferences jointly with foreign companies”, he told them. In his turn, the Governor has recommended the University Administration to invite reps of large construction and management companies to such training, as experience of applying such energy saving technologies would be of real value for them.

After watching all the presented projects, Mr. Zhilkin and Mr. Gutman have given their developers valuable advice to implement them; they have wished our researchers to develop them further.
