Excursion for Future Biologists

In late September 2016, students of the Biological Department of Astrakhan State University visited the Nika-AST fishpond-breeding farm.

The students learnt much about technologies to breed sturgeon in fishponds, apply special equipment to incubate caviar, grow young fish, etc. They had a rare chance to hold the unique barbel sturgeon fish (which on the brink of extinction) in their own hands, as well as the Russian sturgeon, beluga, and sterlet.

Learning about activities that Astrakhan Region’s aquaculture enterprises perform is an essential element of our future biologists’ future professional activities, as it helps them understand in which particular field they should specialize.
