Nowruz at ASU

A concert dedicated to celebration of the ancient holiday of Nowruz has taken place at Astrakhan State University.

Dr. Konstantin Markelov, Acting Rector of ASU, gave a welcoming speech; he congratulated everyone on this remarkable spring holiday. “Our University is multiethnic and multiconfessional, so we celebrated numerous holidays together”, he remarked, “This is a great thing, as we get to know each other better by learning about other cultures. Development of your overall worldview is a key goal for you to meet when you become a student of our University. Today’s event will let you know more about traditions of our multiethnic world, our multiethnic region, and our multiethnic University. My congratulations on this holiday; may peace and happiness always be with you throughout this New Year”.

Mr. Vokhidov, Chairperson of the Astrakhan Regional Public Organization for Preservation & Development of the Tajik Culture, also congratulated the audience on this holiday. This is what he told our foreign students: “When you graduate from Astrakhan State University and return home, please tell your countrypeople about the multiethnic city of Astrakhan, which honors traditions of numerous peoples”.

The official part was followed with a concert. Our students presented customs and traditions of their countries with dancing and singing numbers. At the end of the concert, there was a demonstration of national costumes.
