Topical Issues of Mediation under Consideration at ASU

The participants of the recently held roundtable have discussed issues of opportunities and prospects of settling disputes by applying mediation in practicing lawyers’ activities.

The interuniversity roundtable related to peaceful settlement of disputes in Russia and other countries took place on April 23, 2018 at the Center of Mediation & Law of the Law Department of Astrakhan State University. Practicing mediators and students took part in it.

As a result, the main areas to improve legislation related to mediation of commercial disputes have been determined; the role of mediation among alternative legal means to settle legal conflicts has been identified; the potential of interaction between legal authorities and the civil society in the field of mediation integration into socially important spheres has been analyzed.

Additional information: mediation is a form of extrajudicial settlement of disputes with the help of a third unbiased party. It is the mildest form to settle a dispute. During the mediation procedure, the conflict parties come to a mutually beneficial solution, dwelling on their mediator’s knowledge, experience, and skills.
