United Nations Specialist Trains Students of ASU
On April 22-27, Mr. Nikolai Telnov, staff interpreter of the Russian booth at the UN Office in Vienna, gave a series of master classes at Astrakhan State University.
This is already the third visit of Mr. Telnov to our University. He comes to ASU twice a year to assess our students’ progress and share his knowledge.
Mr. Telnov delivers practical classes to students covering master programs at the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting & Translation (CHSIT) at ASU. For several days, our students had to feel the true atmosphere of interpreting at the United Nations: they studied terms and clichés, performed a sight interpreting, and practiced conference interpreting of speeches given at the UN General Assembly.
Classes by top-level specialists at our CHSIT are possible thanks to its cooperation with the UN Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM). Over the last several years, it has been arranging our students’ training at interpreting units of UN institutions, as well as its experts’ visits to ASU.
