Mr. Nikolai Telnov, Staff Interpreter of Russian Booth at UN Office in Vienna: ASU Yields to No Top Russian University

On April 25, 2018, Mr. Nikolai Telnov, staff interpreter of the Russian booth at the UN Office in Vienna, met Mr. Konstantin Markelov, Acting Rector of Astrakhan State University.

Let us remind that Mr. Telnov, whose experience in conference interpreting exceeds 30 years, came to ASU to give master classes to MA students of our Caspian Higher School of Interpreting & Translation. It is already his third visit to our University. His first meeting with our students took place in Vienna, where our people came to study conference interpreting at the UN institutions in practice. The distinguished guest confessed that our students’ professionalism and willingness to study was a pleasant surprise for him.

Mr. Telnov pointed out that he had taught at many Russian universities and could say for sure that the level of teaching our students is not inferior to that of, say, Lomonosov Moscow State University. In some respects, ASU is even superior to educational institutions of Moscow and Saint Petersburg.

In his turn, Mr. Markelov confirmed that many young people choose ASU now. Not only Russians, but also people from other countries wish they were enrolled to our University. For example, the group that Mr. Telnov is now training includes students from Italy and France.

“It’s a great pleasure for me to work with your students”, Mr. Telnov remarked, “As a teacher, I’m eager to give them as many knowledge as possible”. The expert also said that his colleagues could come to ASU to deliver a training program. The Russian booth at the UN Office in Vienna highly appreciates its cooperation with ASU and looks forward to continuing it.
