Another Stage of a Jean Monnet Project Completed at ASU
The second year of execution of the international project “Democracy and Governance in the European Union” has been over at Astrakhan State University; the project is carried out as part of the Jean Monnet Programme.
This program has been operating since 1989. It aims to enhance one’s knowledge of the EU integration processes by teaching, researching, and debating the themes related to the history, policy, economy, and legislation of the European Union. Nowadays the Jean Monnet Programme operates as part of the Erasmus+ projects.
The project “Democracy and Governance in the European Union” is the first development by Astrakhan State University, which is carried out as part of Jean Monnet. Its duration is from 2016 to 2019. The project supervisor is Dr. Nikolay Grishin from our Chair of Political Science & International Relations; the two other project participants are Prof. Liudmila Baeva (Dean of our Department of Social Communications) and Dr. Alexander Grigoryev from our Chair of Sociology.
Classes to deliver the academic module “Democracy and Governance in the European Union” have been delivered during the second year of the project implementation; they aimed at our students specializing in international relations, Philosophy, and culture studies. Some of our students wrote research and diploma papers concerning the EU administration system.
Besides, several events involving experts and interested parties have been arranged at both ASU and the Astrakhan Regional Parliament; among them, there were roundtables related to elections in the EU.
Moreover, in April 2018 our researchers took part in the international conference held in Moscow. The conference concerned realization of Jean Monnet projects.
