ASU Graduate Unveils Secrets of Working for the UN

Diana Kadyrmatova, a graduate of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation, now works in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a specialized agency of the UN. Diana met with students of Astrakhan State University and told them about her career.

Diana’s professional journey started from her studentship, when she took an externship in the UN together with her groupmates and learnt about an opportunity to become a fellow in this international organization.

Foreign experts in intellectual property have been partners of Astrakhan State University for a long time, and Diana’s work is supervised by Geoffrey Westgate, the Head of the Support Section of PCT Translation Service, who is a frequent guest at ASU.

Diana told the students how to submit your application and what ins and outs she faced at the first stage of her fellowship. Now Diana is a terminologist in a section that deals with contracts in the sphere of patent protection.

The World Intellectual Property Organization help researchers protect their ownership of intellectual property and promote innovations all over the world. That is why those translators who work there must know terminology well, and the ASU Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation pays special attention to this aspect and teach terminology to its students, which will help them in their work in international organizations. Diana stressed that a translator must have knowledge in different areas.
