Astrakhan State University Projects are Supported at the Federal Level

Konstantin Markelov, the ASU Acting Rector, made a report at the RF State Duma Committee on Issues of the Commonwealth of Independent States and Contacts with Fellow Countryman.

The ASU Rector stressed the importance of the Caspian Sea region as the area of crossing interests of several blocks of countries.

Konstantin Markelov determined a solution of the task of strengthening the Russian role in this system via an integrated approach and formation of a common educational, research and information space with preservation of specific features of the Caspian states’ educational systems.

Astrakhan State University is ready to take an important role in this systematic work, as it already has well-established relations with higher educational institutions of the Caspian states and implements a lot of promising projects. It is planning to establish the Centre of Humanitarian Cooperation and Russian Language of the Caspian States at ASU, the university representation office in Baku and the research and educational centre «Caspian Sea» in the nearest future.

«It is necessary to study the current situation in the Caspian Sea region, perform a real assessment of the integration prospects and develop new and more efficient approaches to improve cooperation,» — Konstantin Markelov noted.

The Committee on Issues of the Commonwealth of Independent States and Contacts with Fellow Countryman decided to support the university projects and establish its office at ASU.
