More Than 140 People Participated in the All-Russia Geographical Dictation at ASU
A large-scale educational campaign, held by the Youth Club of the Russian Geographical Society at Astrakhan State University, was supported by schoolchildren, college and university students, teachers and other citizens of Astrakhan that are interested in the Russian geography.
The campaign aims at motivating different social groups to study geography which a well-educated person should be good at. The dictation allows its participants to perform independent assessment of their knowledge in geography while the organizers get unbiased information on the level of geographical literacy of the country’s population with regard to its age and social structure.
The campaign has been held in Russia annually since 2015, and in 2017 it became international — the dictation was written by more than 260,000 people in 25 countries of the world.
Questions about the Russian geography were answered by citizens of Nepal and Costa Rica, Thailand and Brazil, France and USA and even astronauts at the International Space Station. A total of 99 countries participated in the dictation.
