ASU Veteran Enriches the University Scientific Funds with Rare Journals

Konstantin Markelov, the Acting Rector of Astrakhan State University, met with Prof. Sergey Kazarov, one of the oldest teachers of the university, who gave a collection of journals “Probability Theory and Its Applications” as a present to ASU.

The scientific periodical is published by the Steklov Mathematical Institute of RAS, and the first issue was printed under the aegis of the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1956. Since then, Prof. Kazarov has collected and carefully kept each and every issue of the journal. Now this unique collection of 144 journals will enrich the scientific funds of Astrakhan State University.

The journal was established by Andrey Kolmogorov, a great mathematician of the 20th century and one of the founders of the modern theory of probability; now its editorial board consists of the leading academic intellects of the modernity. The journal publishes original articles on the probability theory, general issues of mathematical statistics and their application in natural science. The journal is peer reviewed and is on the list of the Higher Attestation Commission and the Russian Science Citation Index.

Astrakhan State University gratefully appreciates this invaluable scientific gift of the veteran.
