ASU Starts Cooperating with a Unique Indian University

The administration of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University addressed the Astrakhan delegation with a proposal to sign a cooperation agreement. The official ceremony took place on January, 19 at the university building, located in the state of Gujarat.

One of the most advanced universities of India implements the urgent principle of distance learning. Having a well-developed network of offices and applying modern technologies, the university offers learning opportunities to almost every citizen.

Dr. Ami U. Upadhyay, Vice-Chancellor of the university, told ASU Acting Rector Konstantin Markelov about the history of development of distance learning in India and defined the role of a subordinated university in this process. In his turn, the Rector of Astrakhan State University shared our experience of implementing such programmes in the region and, in particular, at ASU.

The universities found common ground in their striving for target-focused education and the demand for their students. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University has an experience of developing study programmes that meet special needs of enterprises and public authorities. It offers training and retraining programmes in high-demand majors and follows the situation at the regional labour market.

Besides, both ASU and the Indian university actively use mass media and communication technologies. The university has its own TV channel and broadcasts educational programmes, and, by widely using Internet technologies, implements one of its main principles — open education for everyone regardless of social class, caste, confession, religion or gender.
