A Channel One Journalist Defends Her Thesis at ASU
The Faculty of Philology & Journalism of Astrakhan State University held the defense of graduation theses of extramural students of the major "Journalism".
The state examination board included both media education theorists — Lyudmila Kasianova, the Head of the Faculty of Philology & Journalism, and Galina Belolipskaya, the Acting Head of Theory & History of Journalism — and practitioners — Stella Zvereva, the Director of the State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company "Lotus" and Natalia Glazkova, the editor of the corporate newspaper "Aksaraysk Pulse" (Gazprom Dobycha Astrakhan LLC). The board was chaired by Aleksey Nechaev, who is the Head of the media holding company "Kaspy Publishing House" and the Regional Office of the Union of Journalists of Russia.
All the studies, carried out by the graduating students, were connected with issues of the Russian and regional media scene.
The practising journalists paid special attention to the BA thesis of Aleksandra Surikova, who proved the effectiveness of journalistic materials on the example of the talk show "Let Them Talk" (Channel One). Aleksandra, who is now a reporter of the journalist team, working for this TV programme, managed to break down an existing stereotype of perceiving the programme "Let Them Talk" as an exclusively entertainment show. The student illustrated her observations and conclusions with good examples from those editions of the talk show that greatly influenced the characters’ life and society in general.
Each presentation of the students was followed by an active discussion, and the participants joined it with enthusiasm. At the end of the defense, Aleksey Nechaev, the board chairman, congratulated the students on the successful defense of their theses and wished them creative success and further professional growth.
