Students of ASU Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation Defend Their Master’s Theses

On June 25, the 2nd year students of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation presented their master's theses to the Attestation Commission.

The Commission was chaired by Prof. Valeria Buryakovskaya, Doctor of Philology and associate professor of the Department of English Philology at Volgograd State Socio-Pedagogical University. The Commission also included Olga Egorova, the Director of the Caspian School, Nadezhda Emelyanova, the Dean of the ASU Faculty of Foreign Languages, several teachers of the Faculty and invited expert Nina Dzhanalieva, the Head of the International Department of the Ministry of International and Foreign Economic Relations of Astrakhan region.

The students, together with their scientific supervisors, conducted research on different issues — genetics, fashion, marketing, diplomacy, cinematography, etc. — in the context of interpretation and translation. ASU MA students’ theses are always relevant and practically oriented. For example, Yulia Nikitina’s thesis was prepared on the basis of her terminology project for the World Intellectual Property Organization — our students have been involved into the development of WIPO Pearl database for two consecutive years now. As for other students, they continued their research on the topics of their bachelor’s theses.

Of course, all the issues covered in the theses were actively discussed: the Commission members commended the scope and practical importance of the students’ research results which will help future professionals in their linguistic career.
