Aleksandr Lunev Is Now the President of Astrakhan State University
Today, on September 26, the meeting of the ASU Academic Council approved the university president statute. By unanimous decision of the Council members, this honorable position was entrusted to Prof. Aleksandr Lunev, who had headed the university from 2000 to 2018.
According to the statute, the position of ASU president can be held by a person that has made a significant contribution to the university’s activities, has a Doctor’s degree and preferably has an experience of university headship. The president is elected unopposed and signs a labour contract for the period up to five years (the same period as the one stipulated for the position of rector).
The status of university president implies his/her participation in meetings of the Academic Council and Top Management, the casting vote right at the staff conference, the right to represent the university in its relations with the authorities, general public and scientific community.
The ASU president was elected at the same meeting of the Academic Council. A set of documents to approve the new status of Aleksandr Lunev will be sent to the RF Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
It should be recalled that earlier, at the celebration of the 70th birthday of the ASU ex-rector, Konstantin Markelov noted that the university president election campaign had already been initiated, and the candidacy of Aleksandr Lunev for this position seemed more than deserved.
