Representative of Astrakhan State University Improves Her Professional Skills at WIPO
In November 2019, Uliana Savelieva, the Head and a trainer of the ASU Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation, undertook a traineeship at the World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva, Switzerland.
WIPO is a global forum, addressing the issues of politics, strengthening of cooperation, provision of services and information in the sphere of intellectual property. Astrakhan State University has been cooperating with the organization since 2017, being the only Russian university that participates in the development of WIPO terminology database — WIPO Pearl.
Master’s degree students of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation have contributed to the development of the project for 2 years, guided by Uliana Savelieva, and this year the teacher of terminology has got a unique opportunity to visit the international organization, get an insight about the specificity of work of this UN agency and comprehend the philosophy of work with the terminology database.
“The idea of my traineeship was to make me a ‘student’ that had been given a task to search and validate seismology terms. Well, I had to review dozens of references on the issue and analyze plenty of research papers. That is, to master the fundamentals of seismology. Sometimes it took me half a day to find a proper term that would be validated by the experts, proficient in English and Russian, but it was worth it,” says the CITS Head.
According to Uliana Savelieva, at her meetings with the heads of various WIPO units, the organization representatives commended the ASU students’ work a lot and thanked the university for its contribution to such an important project.
