Astrakhan State University Will Establish Board of Overseers

According to the Statute, adopted at the meeting of the Academic Council, this collegiate body is being established for facilitation of addressing current and long-term issues of the university development, attraction of additional financial resources to ensure its activities in promising areas of development and control over their application.

As ASU Rector Konstantin Markelov says, the Board will consist of 30 people — representatives of business, financial and scientific communities, employers’ unions, non-governmental organizations and natural persons, including alumni of Astrakhan State University.

In particular, the respective proposal will be sent to ASU Honourary Professors — President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill. The list of candidates also includes Russian inventor Andrey Bakhmetiev, RF State Duma deputies Viktor Vodolatsky and Leonid Ogul, ex-Governor of Astrakhan region Aleksandr Zhilkin, Olympic Champion in handball Andrey Tyumentsev, Rector of RUDN Vladimir Filippov, representatives of the largest industrial enterprises and Astrakhan branches of banks.

Once the candidates reply to the proposals, the composition of the ASU Board of Overseers will be approved by the Academic Council of the university and will start working. The term of their office is equal to the Rector’s term of office.
