ASU International Students Learn Ethnic Tolerance
In order to help first-year international students in their social adaptation and integration, Astrakhan State University runs the Peoples’ Friendship Club for participants of the preparatory programme.
Classes are delivered by representatives of the Astrakhan Branch of the Association of International Students, where students learn traditions and customs of different peoples. Activities for foreign students also include psychological workshops on students’ adaptation and master classes for meeting new people and uniting.
Involvement of international students into social life of the university makes them feel more comfortable in the university’s sociocultural environment. Different forms of extracurricular activities facilitate the development of skills and competencies of intercultural interaction of students in a new sociocultural environment, development of attitudes of ethnic tolerance on the basis of recognition of the value of each person.
The project “Peoples’ Friendship Club” is implemented thanks to a grant, won by Astrakhan State University in 2019 within its participation in the all-Russian competition of youth projects among educational institutions of higher education, announced by the Federal Youth Agency.
