Representative of Italian University Tells ASU Students about International Relations

About 100 people has taken part in the online lecture “Trade wars: conflict and cooperation between the EU and the EAEU” by professor of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice Patricio Barbirotto.

The lecture was organized within the framework of the project “International Online against COVID-19” of the Project Office of International Cooperation and Development in association with the Department of Social, Political and Economic Research of Eurasia & Orient in the ASU Boiling Point Centre. It was interpreted from English into Russian by staff members of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation of Astrakhan State University.

Patricio Barbirotto visited our university several times as early as when he did his BA programme in Italy, and he speaks only positively about his trips to our city.

Doing the Ph.D. course at the Department of Political Science & International Relations within the double-degree programme of Astrakhan State University and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Patricio Barbirotto learnt a lot about the Russian and, in particular, Astrakhan culture.

In his lecture, Patricio Barbirotto dwelled on the major trends in international relations over the last decades:

  • the shift from military to economic means of pressure, the so-called trade wars, involving all the major players on the international arena;
  • development of regional integration processes, in particular with involvement of the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union.
