ASU Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation Holds Final Exams

Before being awarded with cherished MA diplomas in Linguistics, CITS students are to face real challenges. They’ve already stood two tests out of three, and now the theses defence awaits.

This year, the final exams were held in two stages. The first test was the final presentation of terminology projects on replenishment of the WIPO Pearl database. The MA students presented the results of their projects online, analyzed mistakes and the ways they could address them, and answered some questions on terminology theory.

According to the expert commission, the project results of this year’s graduates confirm once again the CITS MA students’ progress in the development of difficult theoretical terminology knowledge, as well as practical skills in the search and selection of terms for specific areas of science and technology.

After this, the graduating students passed the second part of their final exams — four components of testing their consecutive and simultaneous interpreting (and for some students even more — someone tested their second foreign languages too!).

This year, the expert commission at the CITS’ final exam was represented by Rita Nikolajeva, an interpreter of the Latvian booth of the Directorate-General for Interpretation of the European Commission, Nikolai Telnov, an interpreter of the Russian booth of the UN Office at Vienna (Austria), as well as by our graduates Viktor Shamov and Ilya Shuminov, representing the regional interpretation market and interpreting for LLC “LUKOIL-Astrakhanenergo” and LLC “LUKOIL-Nizhnevolzhskneft”, Valeria Buriakovskaia, the Head of the Department of English Philology of Volgograd State Socio-Pedagogical University, and, of course, by the director and trainers of our School, who have been leading out students to the most serious and responsible stage of their master’s path for two years.
