ASU Journalism Students Attended Educational Workshop on Financial Literacy
On August 19-20, students of the Faculty of Philology & Journalism of Astrakhan State University took part in workshop “Favouring Population’s Financial Literacy Level Up and Development of Financial Education in Russia”, held under support of the RF Ministry of Finances.
Ian Art, the workshop moderator, the editor-in-chief of finversia.ru and an expert of the State Duma Committee for Financial Market, delivered a lecture on savings and investments in crisis. The expert also told the participants how to make financial information clear to a regular reader and how to attract and keep audience’s attention.
Financial Director of Pilot IT company and financial literacy consultant of the RF Ministry of Finances Ekaterina Myastsova dwelled on the topic of taxes. She not only talked about the tax system and culture but also offered a wide range of newsworthies and topics for articles to mass media students, as the expert knows firsthand what is interesting to the general public most of all. The speaker urged the regional journalists to develop the population’s tax culture with their publications.
Besides, the event participants met Deputy Director of the National Centre of Financial Literacy Sergey Makarov, manager of the Federal Foundation for the Protection of Investors and Shareholders Rights, FAS member Marat Safiulin and independent financial consultant of the Ministry of Finances Tatiana Voytsekhovskaya. They touched upon some topics of financial planning, financial fraud, insurance and social tax deductions.
