ASU Researchers Are Acknowledged at Major Archeological Forum

On February 1-3, a delegation of the Historical Faculty of Astrakhan State University took part in the 53rd Ural-Volga Student Archeological Conference, the most authoritative youth scientific archeological event of Russia.

The conference has been held in Russia every year for more than half of a century. As a rule, the events are organized offline in one of the cities of the Ural-Volga region. Astrakhan also hosted the conference in 1976 and 2006.

This year, it was decided to hold the conference for the first time online because of the unfavourable epidemiological situation. As a result, the archeology students had limited opportunities for direct communication, but the sections in each branch of regional archeology were moderated at the highest level — each section was moderated by 4-5 doctors of sciences — the leading scientists of the region.

The Astrakhan delegation of 7 BA and MA history students participated in section Middle Ages, presenting the results of the many-year excavations of the ASU Low Volga Archeological Expedition on the Savosdelka and Selitrennoye sites of ancient settlements in Astrakhan region.

Oleg Zyablov’s report Building Techniques of the Golden Horde Era (based on the L1 pit at the Selitrennoye site) was recognized one of the best reports of the conference and was awarded a 3-rd degree certificate.
