ASU Starts Project “Open Thinking: Intercultural Dialogue”

A strategic session of the UNESCO Chair of Astrakhan State University has taken place online and offline at the Boiling Point Centre; the audience considered relevant issues of sustainable development.

The speakers of the event were ASU Rector, Head of the UNESCO Chair “Learning Society and Human Sustainable Development” Konstantin Markelov, Deputy Head of the Agency for International Relations of Astrakhan region Ilya Toropitsyn, Dean of the Faculty of Social Communications Lyudmila Baeva, Director of the ASU Department of Continuing Education Galina Fayzieva and Head of the Astrakhan Youth Agency Egor Ugarov.

The session was opened by the ASU rector, who noted that the UNESCO Chair “Learning Society and Human Sustainable Development” has been functioning at the university since 2004; it implements projects aimed at uniting research and teaching staff, students, interested school youth, government agencies and public organizations for achieving the goals of social sustainable development.

All the speakers agreed that Astrakhan region is very important for Russia: it is our region that is assigned the task of implementing international cooperation in the Caspian region.

Representatives of Kazan, Krasnodar and Moscow also joined the conversation online. The experts spoke about the interaction of the UNESCO Chairs and discussed issues of cooperation.

The meeting participants also discussed issues of education and youth policy. Egor Ugarov told the audience about the projects implemented by the Astrakhan Youth Agency.

The strategic session, organized and held by the Department “UNESCO Chair: Learning Society and Human Sustainable Development”, brought together not only distinguished speakers but also a large number of invited guests, as well as students of Astrakhan State University.
