ASU Starts Its 90th Anniversary Year

Konstantin Markelov has announced the beginning of the anniversary year at the Cultural Center of Astrakhan State University, and students and artists sent their greetings on Teachers Day and the university’s birthday to the professors and administrative staff, showing them fascinating concert items.
The ceremony of opening the Astrakhan Pedagogical Institute took place in October 1932 in the building of the former K. Marx school. Director of the newly created higher educational institution Nikolay Ponomarev spoke at that meeting.
The institute began its work with four day-course departments — economics, biology, mathematics and literature, as well as five evening-course departments — history, biology, literature, physics and chemistry.
Over its almost 90-year history, Astrakhan State University has experienced successes and hardships, which only strengthened its position in the field of higher education.
Today ASU is one of the most dynamically developing innovative universities of Russia, combining academic traditions and modern technologies in its activities. Sixteen faculties educate and train first-class specialists.
Artists of the ASU cultural center prepared a concert programme for the audience, in which they told the history of the higher educational institution through songs and dances. The event ended with a ceremony of awarding professors of Astrakhan State University.
