Long-Awaited First Night of Students’ Musical
On May 12, 2014, the Center of Leisure Activities of Astrakhan State University held the first night of a students’ musical “The Lion King” that follows the motives of the famous Broadway musical bearing the same name.
The musical set by our students is a show with an interesting plot and performance; it is an outcome of a socialization project launched at ASU in 2013-2014. Over 60 students of nine Departments of ASU have taken part in it; besides, over 35 students have handled the technical issues of the musical.
The performance has been set most similarly to its famous Broadway original; our students have learnt the musical parts in English by heart. Their splendid vocals, bright talents, smart dances, and distinguished costumes have amazed their audience. Using the whole range of theater techniques, the students could deliver the idea that everlasting values remain relevant nowadays. The distinguished guests of the event (Mr. Konstantin Markelov, Chairman of the Government of Astrakhan Region, and Mr. Vitaliy Gutman, Minister of the Education & Science of Astrakhan Region) have said that the level of the musical performance is high; they wished the students further success in their theater performances.
The students’ musical has become a bright final of the Festival of Socialization Projects held at ASU in April. Right before the first night, the participating Departments were given nominees’ and laureates’ diplomas for theater and podium stages.
