Vacations at International Summer Language Camp

In early July 2014, students of Astrakhan State University have spent their vacations at an international summer language camp.

Our students’ studies of foreign languages at Astrakhan State University are not just practical classes that are delivered in accordance with the official schedule within a whole term. During their summer vacations, our students went on mastering foreign languages at an international summer language camp. They lived in comfortable cottages in the Kaspiyskie Zori hotel facility, which gave them a smart chance to feel the world of foreign languages, to make friends, and to have fun during their vacations. Language studies at the camp were based on intense teaching techniques, which was great for an efficient cultural exchange. Our future philologists learnt Chinese; our future ICT specialists dealt with Farsi; as for our students from Chad, Benin, Indonesia, and Japan, they improved their Russian.

Eight hours of classes were taught at the camp every day; joint extracurricular activities helped our folks master new speech expressions in a more natural way, contact each other more actively and productively.

The language program included a number of games. Experience in socialization that our students gained previously has helped them arrange smart and cool performances at the open site of the hotel facility. A presentation of specialties that ASU delivers, the Day of the Russian Culture, a vocal contest, scene talks in most diverse themes, a football match, and a dancing master class have become essential parts of the camp vacations.

he two weeks that our students have spent at the camp has helped them dive into the language environment for all the 24 hours; it has made them more interested in learning a foreign language and gave them good skills of intercultural communication.
