Expedition of Our Future Geographers

A group of students of the Department of Geology & Geography of Astrakhan State University has been on a visit to the village of Nizhny Baskunchak in the north of Astrakhan Region.

During their summer practical training program, the students have been to Lake Baskunchak, to the mountain Bolshoye Bogdo, to caves at the lake, to the local museum of saltmines, and to gypseous mines at operating industrial facilities. The expedition has been headed by Dr. Marina Bezuglova, an Associate Professor of ASU and a member of the Russian Geographical Society.

During their expedition, our students have learnt much about the flora and the fauna of the Bogdo-Baskunchak Reserve and of the Bogdo-Baskunchak Preserve.
