ASU as Volunteer Center of World Championship
23.09.2014
Astrakhan State University has been chosen as one of the twenty centers all over Russia to select volunteers for the 16th World Championship in Water Sports to be held in Kazan in 2015.
A delegation of ASU headed by Vladimir Redko, Chief of the New Step Volunteer Center operating at our University, has come back from Kazan this week. Together with his peers Ekaterina Shevchenko and Polina Gulina, Vladimir has taken part in the National Educational Camp “Volunteers’ Academy-2014”, where students had to cover a training program for their future work at the 2015 Kazan Championship. The educational program of the Camp has included blocks related to sports events, to mechanisms of food supply, to accommodation and transportation arrangement, to safety and life insurance, to health and cultural program issues.
The Camp has preceded the campaign to select volunteers. Vladimir Redko and Ekaterina Kalinich from Vladivostok have been authorized to start receiving applications. They were the first to fill in online questionnaires. After that, Vladimir will acquire the official status of the chief of the Astrakhan regional center to train volunteers for the 2015 Kazan Championship.
Since September 20, the questionnaire has become available for anyone at the web site of the Championship. In particular, ASU is looking forward to receiving the first candidates, who will be interviewed by recruiters after submitting their questionnaires online. The quota for Astrakhan Region is just 25 people. According to Vladimir, the center expects to receive a large number of candidates; their selection will be very tough, but the decision shall be made by three bodies jointly – by Astrakhan State University, by the Volunteer Department of the Championship, and by the Executive Directorate of Sports Facilities (the official organizer of the 2015 Kazan Championship). Let us remark that only 20 regions of the Russian Federation (of 85) are entitled to select volunteers. Astrakhan Region has been selected as one of those 20 regions, since its volunteers did a lot of good work at previous sports events of international scale; most of our people were supervised by the New Step Volunteer Center.
The 16th World Championship in Water Sports shall be opened on July 24, 2015. It shall be held up to August 09. Contest participants will have to compete in six kinds of sports: swimming, high board diving, high diving, open water swimming, synchronized swimming, and water polo. 71 sets of medals are to be granted at the event; people from 180 countries will take part in it.
