Intelligent House & Innovative Products of ASU Surprise People of Astrakhan

The Zvezdny Sports Complex has hosted the 9th Specialized Exhibition “Education as Investment into Success”. Our University has presented a number of its innovative developments, thus having fully renewed its exposition concept.

As usual, ASU has presented a rich and versatile exposition. The event guests could take various psychological tests prepared by staff of our Basic Chair of Applied Psychology that operates at the Rehabilitation Center for Children & Teenagers with Special Needs “Correction & Health”. According to Ms. Yulia Denikina, a staff member of the Chair, it was the test to reveal the dominating cerebral hemisphere that was the most popular one among the public. Anyway, visitors often wished to reveal their IQ levels by taking an associative test.

Robotic developments of our University have been of profound interest. ASU’s Center of Viable Technologies in Electronics & Robotics has demonstrated four projects. These are: the SMART-MK intelligent house; a model bracelet for people with special needs; a crawling defectoscope for pipelines; an unmanned pleasure boat that orients by means of geographical location. It is interesting that the computer of the intelligent house developed by our young scientists perceives only the name “Jessica”. According to Alexander Savkin from the Center of Electronics & Robotics, it was done to prevent its voice sensor from executing random commands. Jessica the Computer can turn lights on and off; it can lock and unlock the entrance door or activate the floor heating. But that is only the beginning of the project; Jessica will soon be able to do much more things.

Students and faculty of the Department of Service Technologies of the Technical College of ASU treated everyone with healthy food. Drinks with a low concentration of sugar and baked goods enriched with vitamins have been especially popular among the public.

Some units of our University have been debutants at the Exhibition; in particular, it was the shop of our innovative products “StartUp” and our Center of Creative Industries. Visitors of our exposition could see how to make clay pots, take part in a potting master class, and learn more about other traditional crafts. As for the StartUp shop, it has presented developments of five small innovative enterprises that operate at our University. Many guests were surprised to learn that Astrakhan Region manufactures its own cosmetic line, unique medicinal preparations, and an environmentally friendly cleaning agent.

According to Ms. Natalia Smirnova, Director of the Salon of Innovations & Investments of ASU, the changed concept of our exposition is a result of active processes to develop the StartUp shop and the Center of Creative Industries. The exposition of Astrakhan State University has become of more applied character; at the same time, it became much farther from being just a passive exposition of our achievements.

The Department of Preliminary Education has done large-scale profession-oriented work at the Exhibition; not only its specialists told high school students a lot about ASU, but also they arranged a questionnaire poll that involved over 100 young respondents.

The Exhibition Organizing Committee thanks the team of the New Step Volunteer Center of ASU for their active work at the event.
