Folk Crafts: Our Students Teach Kids
Students who study at the Center of Creative Industries that operates at Astrakhan State University have delivered a whole series of master classes at Astrakhan Region’s secondary and primary schools. Kids studying in the 2nd, the 4th, and the 6th forms have learnt much about various kinds of folk crafts.
The master classes have been held as a part of a larger event – the Year of Crafts. Students of a wide range of ASU’s Departments have helped kids learn the basic techniques of decoupage, pyrography, patchwork, and clay modeling. Kids could also find out how to make a traditional Russian doll.
“Kids are very noisy, but they’re talented”, Dina Urazgalieva, one of our students, confesses. “We’re going to teach World Artistic Culture after we graduate; so it’s crucial for us to work with kids when we’re still university students. That’s useful for both kids and us”.
The event organizers are also planning to hold an exhibition of students’ and kids’ works, as well as to arrange an award ceremony for its winners. About 400 kids have already taken part in such master classes during the Year of Crafts.
