Festival of Students’ Science Completed at ASU

The Festival of Students’ Science has been over at Astrakhan State University.

The Main Assembly Hall of ASU has turned into an exposition site for a whole day; all the Departments of our University have demonstrated their best developments there. “We were really amazed with the number and creativity of the presented projects”, Prof. Anna Fedotova, ASU’s Vice Rector for Research Activities, confesses. “Besides, the participants tried to create a holiday atmosphere: they arranged a real fancy-dress ball of science for their visitors!”

Each guest coming into the Assembly Hall received a token to vote for this or that scientific development by our students. Winners of the visitors’ sympathies prize have been determined thanks to that. Among the best developments presented at the event, one could mention integrated projects by the Chemical Department; their goal is to create new materials by applying “green” (i.e. environmentally friendly) technologies and introduce biologically active substance into such products as honey, butter, and sugar candies. As for the Department of Social Communications, its students have presented the “Dress Code as Factor of Successful Self-Presentation in Modern Society”. Besides, they have carried out a small sociological survey dedicated to the Festival and displayed its results on a large screen in the real-time mode. The Department of Pedagogics, Social Work and Physical Training has exhibited its project “Body Harmony” that implied determination of a body constitution type to develop the right system of nutrition (for men and for women separately) and physical training. As for the Department of Secondary Professional Education, it has presented its recipe of thick pancakes made of vegetative raw materials cultivated in the arid zone of Astrakhan Region, as well as the miraculous pills “Excellent Mood”. The Department of Mathematics & Information Technologies has exhibited models of complex mathematical objects printed by a 3D printer. The exposition of the Agrarian Department has included projects aiming to prepare cultured milk fresh drinks based on freshly-soured milk, natural fruit and vegetables, as well as to research adaptation of sorts of rice of Iranian selection to the environmental conditions of Astrakhan Region’s arid zone, etc. Projects by other Departments of our University have been as interesting as these ones.

Within one day, the event organizers have counted about 3, 300 visitors. As a result of counting the number of the voting tokens, the prize of the visitors’ sympathies has been granted to the following Departments: the 1st place – to the Department of Secondary Professional Education (578 scores); the 2nd place – to the Agrarian Department (352 scores); the 3rd place – to the Department of Pedagogics, Social Work and Physical Training (324 scores).

At the end of the Festival, the University Administration has announced the Competition of Students’ Research Grants.
