ASU Participates in Global Projects Program

Joint project activities between Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Massachusetts, USA) and Astrakhan State University (Russia) have been initiated as a part of the Global Projects Program.

In December 2015, ASU joined the Global Projects Program (GPP) run by Worcester Polytechnic Institute. This Program implies that students of WPI complete at least one project off campus. As a rule, they work as members of international teams together with their peers who study at a local university (where the project customer is located) and suggest their solutions to the tasks set by outside organizations and companies.

Joint teams of WPI and ASU are currently executing two projects: Energy-Smart Campus (supervised by Mr. Alexander Kondratyev, Vice Rector for Administrative Affairs & Capital Construction of ASU) and Economic Efficiency Assessment of Project to Analyze Underwater Pipelines in Caspian Sea (supervised by Dr. Alexey Rybakov, Director of the Institute of Researches & Solutions to Technological Tasks of ASU).

The delegation of WPI in Astrakhan includes 8 students; ASU is represented by 15 students of our Department of Physics & Technology and our Department of World Economy & Management.

Our United States guests met Rector of ASU, who warmly welcomed them and remarked that cooperation with WPI is not just essential for ASU, but that it is also of profound interest for us, as such activities make it possible for our students to perform their activities at the international level.

Teamwork hosted by ASU shall last 10 days: students from the two countries can ask project customers questions, and the American students can learn much about educational, research, and creative activities that take place at Astrakhan State University.

The official presentational of final projects shall take place at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation (Moscow, Russia) in October 2016.
