Celebrating Nowruz at ASU

The Department of Foreign Languages of Astrakhan State University has celebrated Nowruz, the ancient Iranian holiday.

A group of Iranians living and working in Astrakhan visited the party prepared by our students in honor of Nowruz, which symbolizes the coming of the Persian New Year. Among our guests, there were reps of the Consulate General of Iran in Astrakhan, the chairperson of the Iranian diaspora society in our city, and businesspeople.

The organizers did their best to provide the holiday setting that meets our guests’ national customs and traditions: they served the Haft-Seen table (with specific features that make Nowruz different from any other holiday) and gave a performance in Farsi, which included poems by modern Persian poets and classical writers, as well as songs and a comic scene from everyday life of Iranian people.

The guests appreciated our students’ progress in studying Farsi and wished more people of the Iranian diaspora in Astrakhan came to celebrate Nowruz next time.
