Japanese Specialist in Turkic Languages Completes Research Program at ASU

Mr. Masahiro Oku from the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies has completed his research program in the field of Turkic Languages at Astrakhan State University.

Jointly with the Chair of Asian Languages of ASU, our Japanese guest visited Astrakhan Region’s villages populated by ethnic Turkmen. Together with Dr. Viktor Viktorin, he collected a lot of research material related to dialects of the Turkmen language in Russia; he also studied customs and traditions of Turkmen people living in Astrakhan. He also learnt much about teaching Japanese at our University; together with Ms. Satoko Hasegawa, who works at ASU, he arranged country studies of Japan for our students. For their peers who study Turkish, our guest gave reviewing lectures about studies of Turkic languages in Japan.

Having collected the necessary research material, Mr. Oku is going to publish his findings jointly with Dr. Viktorin and continue his cooperation with ASU.
