Gathering Harvest

Students of the Department of Agribusiness, Technologies, & Veterinary Medicine of Astrakhan State University have taken part in gathering the first harvest in the village of Nachalo not far from the city of Astrakhan.

Two large-scale events have taken place this spring to unite students and professors of all our Departments: a fruit and vegetable garden was established on a 1.3-ha land site. The vegetable garden included planted tomatoes, aubergines, and peppers of the sorts selected by breeders of Astrakhan. During the summer vegetation period, our students were taking care of the young plants; they struggled with weeds, watered and added fertilizers. Their work gave a real result, as the garden produced a good harvest of vegetables. It was decided to arrange a charity event – to distribute the harvest to families that have many children. Those families were delighted to receive this gift and arrived at Nachalo on Sept. 08. Students of our Department of Agribusiness, Technologies, & Veterinary Medicine helped gather the harvest.

Three families having many kids – the Zaplavnys, the Drachevskys, and the Viatkins – expressed their wholehearted thanks to Astrakhan State University, to its administration, professors, and students, who cultivated such a rich and tasty harvest on the experimental fields of our University. They pointed out that our University is keenly aware of the needs of families having many children, which indicates a high level of its social responsibility. The event participants thanked Prof. Ravil Arykbaev, Dean of our Department of Agribusiness, Technologies, & Veterinary Medicine, as well as our professors and students for their charity activities, for their diligent work, for their love towards what they do; they wished them a long life, sound health, and success in their professional activities. They also wished a similar event were held next year.
