Shrovetide Celebration at ASU
Traditional celebrations of Shrovetide have taken place at Astrakhan State University.
Every single year we are looking forward to meeting long-awaited spring. Shrovetide is a symbol of winter that fades away. This is not just a splendid chance to have fun; it is also a chance to remember and reflect our ancient holidays and traditions.
The Department of Social Communications of ASU decorated the ground floor of our Main Building and arranged a whole program to meet upcoming spring. In the morning, staff and students were met with cheerful round dances, Russian tambourines and accordions, games and songs. There was even a dancing contest between the performers in the afternoon.
The second day was the day of treating everyone with tasty pancakes. Mr. Alexander Zhilkin, Governor of Astrakhan Region, visited our University that day.
The third day saw the master class “Making Folk Doll from Rags – the Shrovetide”. Numerous students took part in the master class, as well as Prof. Liudmila Baeva, their Dean. Each participant received a mascot to protect his or her home from unhappy events.
It was a great celebration of Shrovetide; there were so many impressions and positive emotions thanks to this spring holiday!
