Students of ASU May Interpret at 2022 FIFA World Cup

At his meeting with Mr. Nikolai Telnov, staff interpreter of the Russian booth at the UN Office in Vienna, Mr. Konstantin Markelov. Acting Rector of Astrakhan State University, told that volunteers from our University are expected to go to the next FIFA World Cup.

Mr. Markelov said that this theme had previously been discussed with Mr. Igor Levitin, Assistant to the Russian President. Mr. Levitin is Deputy Chairperson of the Presidential Council for Physical Training & Sports Development; he is Vice President of Russian Olympic Committee.

Mr. Levitin visited our University last week to participate in the meeting of the workgroup to prepare the State Council Presidium. He remarked that volunteers with a good knowledge of languages would be demanded at the 2022 World Cup to be held in Qatar. Interpreters specializing in various fields are necessary, and it is Astrakhan State University, which has one of the best schools of interpreting and translation in Russia, that could provide qualified specialists.

In his turn, Mr. Markelov confirmed that our volunteers already took part in a number of world championships.
