Astrakhan State University Analyses the Admission Campaign Results

November, 26 saw another meeting of the university Academic Council. Representatives of the ASU administration discussed, among other issues, the dynamics of document submission to the programmes of higher and secondary vocational education and promising directions of work with prospective students.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Council members congratulated Konstantin Markelov, the ASU Acting Rector, on receiving a letter of gratitude for active participation in the All-Russia Research & Practice Forum "Caucasian Identities: from Confrontation to Consolidation".

The main item of the agenda was an analysis of the results of the Admission Campaign — 2018. According to the data presented by Luydmila Tovarnichenko, the Executive Secretary of the Admission Committee, 63% of the freshmen are Astrakhan citizens, 7% are non-residents and 30% are international students mainly from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

This year saw the growth in popularity of engineering and IT majors, and the prospective students were also traditionally interested in economic and legal programmes.

While discussing the provided information, the Academic Council members determined several areas for optimization of running the Admission Campaign — 2019. In particular, they stressed the importance of an early advertising campaign and bonuses for enrollees.
