ASU Raised Another Generation of Parliamentary Journalists

The Astrakhan Regional Duma held a ceremony of awarding certificates to graduates of the Parliamentary Journalism School. It should be noted that this year the joint project of the Duma and ASU celebrates its anniversary.

The first training course for students of the Faculty of Philology & Journalism was delivered 5 years ago. Since then, more and more media newcomers learn about niceties of covering parliamentary activities. The School students attend meetings, talk to regional deputies and participate in master classes, given by parliamentarians and leading media experts.

Konstantin Markelov, the ASU Acting Rector, noted, “It is very important that you have the opportunity to merge into the topic that must be covered in media correctly and is always public, because activities of the parliament as the legislative representative authority is always interesting to the general public.”

It should be noted that a unique experience of ASU in training future journalists with parliamentary literacy has drawn a lively interest of other regions and can kick start to similar projects in Russian HEIs. In our country, such schools exist only for practising media experts, while Astrakhan State University launched and keeps developing an exclusive educational project precisely for students.
