ASU Initiated A Global Project at the Forum in India

On January 18-20, Gandhinagar, India, hosted the biggest international investment summit "Vibrant Gujarat". The summit was attended, among other guests, by a delegation of Astrakhan State University. ASU came in new fruitful contacts and signed a number of important agreements.

Vibrant Gujarat is a unique forum for exchange of ideas and knowledge and networking development. The summit traditionally brings together leaders of countries and governments, ministers, heads of global corporations, top officials, heads of international organizations and representatives of scientific community from around the world. This year the summit was opened by Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India.

The state of Gujarat is twinned with Astrakhan Region and has old-established joint projects; however, until now there were no initiatives like the one that has been implemented thanks to ASU. At the summit, Konstantin Markelov, the Acting Rector of Astrakhan State University, signed an agreement with Sanjay Prasad, Deputy Secretary-General for Agriculture of the Government of the State of Gujarat, which, in its turn, formalizes partnership with four industry-specific HEIs under Mr. Prasad’s authority.

The signed official documents open wide areas for joint activities.

The parties also discussed an issue of establishing a department of Russian-Indian studies at ASU. It should be recalled that the initiative was put forward during the visit of Venkatesh Varma, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Russian Federation, to Astrakhan State University.
