ASU Student Completed a Linguistic Traineeship Abroad
Irina Hwang, a 3-year student of Astrakhan State University, has come back from South Korea were she studied at the language center of Dongshin University. She had won the grant of the university and underwent the traineeship. During 5 months of her studies Irina was the only Russian student at the foreign university.
Irina studies international relations at the ASU Faculty of Social Communications. In May 2018 she applied for a grant of Dongshin University. In her contest for the victory she competed with many students from around the world. Finally, she headed for a small town of Naju where the university campus is situated.
The classes were held in Korean. The groups were comprised of 15 students and there was the total of 300 people studying at the university’s language center. Irina was the only Russian there. The majority of training participants were from Vietnam as well as Mongolia and Uzbekistan.
There were several tutors who trained the students, Irina says, and it was useful as each tutor had their own methodology and approach to the students. Classes were held 5 times a week for 4 hours plus home assignment. Each two months students passed tests to check if they were ready to enter new stage of the training.
There was not much time for travelling but Irina sometimes managed to visit the neighboring city of Gwangju which is considered one of the largest in the country. Irina Hwang learned a lot about South Korea and its people after she had felt the atmosphere of the country.
Irina is satisfied with her study visit and will use any chance to get such an opportunity one more time. In future she would like to have her career connected with South Korea so she works hard to prepare for this.
