ASU Runs the Course of Arabic

On March 1, 2019 the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation launched a new project of a basic course of Arabic. A 4-month course brings together students and alumni, employees and teachers of Astrakhan State University, as well as everyone who wants to learn one of the most ancient and beautiful languages of the world.

Lyudmila Napylova, an expert in Arab studies, a senior teacher of the Department of Asian Languages and a practicing translator and interpreter, will teach the basics of phonetics and alphabet, main rules of the Arabic morphology and syntax and will help develop reading and writing skills. Besides, the course attendees will learn about the culture, customs and traditions of the oldest civilizations of the world and open a mysterious and magic world of the East.

Arabic is one of the six official languages of the UN. Like many other countries of the world, Russia still lacks for translators and interprets who are proficient in this ancient language. And this fact increases chances for getting employed in such spheres as oil & gas, finances, energy and a lot more.

Besides, learning Arabic is more relevant than ever — Astrakhan State University is going to train volunteer interpreters and translators for one of the most important events in the world of sport — 2022 FIFA World Cup which will be held in Qatar. Candidates who speak Arabic will have clear advantages during the selection procedure. Qatar needs 20,000 volunteers, and for now, more than 200,000 applications have already been submitted.

It should be also recalled that the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation is also going to launch an intensive course in September, designed for training future volunteer interpreters and translators for international events.
