Candidature of Konstantin Markelov Is Supported by the Council of Astrakhan University Rectors

Today, the heads of regional higher educational institutions expressed their opinion on the candidatures for the position of rector of Astrakhan State University.

During the meeting, Aleksandr Nevalenny, the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Astrakhan University Rectors, presented a list of candidates for the position of ASU rector, approved by the structural subdivisions and the United Council of Students.

The Council members unanimously supported the candidature of ASU Acting Rector Konstantin Markelov and agreed on the candidatures of Elina Polyanskaya, First Vice Rector and the Vice Rector for Strategic Development, and Anna Fedotova, the Vice Rector for Research Activities.

While discussing the decision made, the participants mentioned Konstantin Markelov’s great contribution to educational management, to raising the ASU profile as a large research and educational centre, to the quantity and scale of events, held at the university, as well as his personal authority as a scientist and manager.

In his turn, Vitaly Gutman, the Acting Minister of Education and Science of Astrakhan region, announced the opinion of Sergey Morozov, the Astrakhan Governor ad interim, and Rasul Sultanov, the Chair of the Government of Astrakhan region, on the issue under consideration: they also supported the candidature of Konstantin Markelov, which was reflected in a respective official letter.

In his reply, the ASU Acting Rector thanked his colleagues for the vote of confidence and expressed his intention to continue joint work on academic activities.

Besides, the Council of Astrakhan University Rectors considered the issues of holding the Interregional Conference of University Rectors of Russia and Uzbekistan on April 8, organization of the student handball and football league among Astrakhan educational institutions and coordination of work with international students.
