Astrakhan State University Opens an International Conference on Intellectual Property

The event is being held under the support of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent). The experts from these organizations explain the specificity of the modern patent law to the conference participants.

The international conference and the national seminar on the Patent Cooperation Treaty and its latest modifications, which is part of the event, involved guests from the Republic of Kazakhstan, Republic of Kalmykiya, Lugansk People's Republic and different cities of Russia, as well as representatives of Astrakhan HEIs.

According to the organizers, the conference objective is to inform the audience about the work of the international system of the Patent Cooperation Treaty which allows to take out patents for inventions and protect them in several countries through submitting one single application.

Welcoming the audience, ASU Rector Konstantin Markelov stressed that teachers and students of the university are actively involved into scientific and research activities, and their results must be protected properly, that’s why it’s indispensable to hold seminars on the patent system at the university.

The official opening ceremony of the international conference at ASU was attended, among other guests, by representatives of the Consulates of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkmenistan in Astrakhan region.

The floor was also given to Vitaly Gutman, the Minister of Education and Science of Astrakhan region, Aleksandr Klykanov, a deputy of the RF State Duma, Aleksandr Bashkin, a representative of the executive branch of the government of Astrakhan region in the Federation Council of the RF Federal Assembly, Igor Martynov, the Chairman of the State Duma of Astrakhan region, and Olga Bashkina, the Rector of Astrakhan State Medical University.
