Astrakhan State University Holds a Seminar on Assistance for Persons with Disabilities

One of the ASU priorities is provision of comfortable conditions of the educational environment and availability of facilities and services for students with special need. For this purpose, the Department of Continuing Education put forward an initiative to organize a corporate seminar for staff members of the university’s structural units.

The event featured Tatiana Simonova, the Head of the ASU Department of Remedial Pedagogy, who was the seminar speaker.

At the seminar, the participants considered a series of issues on organization of assistance for persons with disabilities at the university and its premises. The main principles of this area of activities are nondiscrimination, respect for person’s dignity, his/her personal autonomy, full and effective involvement of such people into social processes. Students with special need shall be provided with an opportunity for moving autonomously or with the help of accompanying persons, assistance in entering and leaving the university, information on available routes of public transport. It is especially important to comply with professional ethics in communication with special-need students and prevent situations that could impede getting educational services on an equal basis with other people.
