ASU Journalism Students Get to Know about MP Work

February 2020 has seen the first lesson within “School of Parliamentary Journalism”, a joint project of the Astrakhan Regional Duma and Astrakhan State University (managed by Galina Belolipskaya).

As the programme is aimed at acquaintance with the technology of legislative activities and peculiarities of their coverage in the media, each year the project involves 3rd-year students of the ASU Faculty of Philology & Journalism of the major “Journalism”, and this year it’ll be the seventh group of participants.

At the first lesson, the students learned about the history of formation of parliamentary corps of the region during their excursion at the Astrakhan Duma Museum and visited the audience hall. Then the students took part in work of the journalists’ corps and press service of the Astrakhan Regional Duma during the coverage of the February plenary meeting, featuring more than 30 points in its agenda.

The students will learn about the work of regional deputies during the whole semester. They’ll be offered various types and forms of classes — meetings, interviews, talks, excursions and consultations with MPs, attendance at plenary meetings of the Duma and committees, round-table discussions and press conferences. It is also planned to hold a meeting with heads and journalists of the leading regional mass media that cover deputies’ activities.

As a result, along with accumulated theoretical knowledge and practical skills, the journalists-to-be will be able to enrich their personal professional portfolios.
