ASU Representative Takes Part in Meeting of International Federation of Translators Council
The annual event should have taken place on April 21-22 in Barcelona at the National Translator Association of Spain. As it was impossible to hold an on-site meeting because of the COVID-19 situation, 17 Council members, including trainer of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation Olga Egorova, met online via Zoom.
It should be recalled that in 2018, Astrakhan welcomed guests from all over the world at another meeting of the Council of the International Federation of Translators (FIT), an influential professional organization with a global reach.
This time, the Council members from different countries spent two days discussing the annual strategy of development of the sphere of translation and interpretation, which is especially relevant now, when the world pandemic has changing rules of the game in all markets. Now loads of T & I companies are suffering from the economic slowdown aftermath. Governments of different countries are introducing measures to support their industries. All these issues formed the agenda of the Council large meeting.
Besides, an important issue under discussion was planning of further activities of the Council, in particular organization of the largest event of the International Federation of Translation which is held every three years and brings together several thousands of translators, interpreters, employers, and representatives of international organizations, governments and corporations.
The participants also addressed the issues of accepting new members, development of T & I in those parts of the world where this sphere is not at so high level as it is in other regions. And here the role of Astrakhan and the Caspian region is very important, as we can make our contribution and help our neighbouring partners — CIS countries, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tadzhikistan, Iran, with which the ASU Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation cooperates on a regular basis.
